Member Monday - Sweetpea Memories Photography

March 14, 2016

On Mondays we highlight our members so you can get to know the Island Birth Association community a little better! This Monday we meet Shannon of Sweetpea Memories Photography.

Welcome to Island Birth Association, Shannon! Tell us a little about you & your business.

Sweetpea Memories Photography has been in business since 2007.  Portrait photography provided on location, and in studio.  Specializing in Belly, Bump, Birth and Baby as well as Children's Photography.

What attracted you to birth work?

Birth photography is AMAZING to me.  As well as birth workers.  I enjoy getting to help my clients with questions just from my own experience with my own four children.  Capturing a birth as a keepsake is the best.

How does your service help women & families?

I feel confident that when a client comes to me, they always feel relaxed and comfortable.  Newborn sessions are scheduled for 3 hours.  This too allows the parents to relax in my studio and take a nap more often times then not.  It's relaxing, warm and calm in my studio and gives them a temporary break from the chaos that can come with being a new parent and the sleepless nights.  I give them the sense that their little bundle is taken care of, comfortable with me and safe so they can enjoy their session.

What's one thing you'd like us to know about you?

I'm also a photographer for Now I lay me down to sleep.  Not only should parents of healthy babies have memories forever, so should parents that don't get to watch their baby grow up.  It's not easy capturing loss but knowing what I'm doing for these families makes it worth it.  It could be the only thing to hold onto.  I've also capture children with childhood cancers at no charge while battling such a horrible disease.  With my own nephew dying at 20 years old from melanoma, I witnessed first hand how important photographs truly are!

Thanks, Shannon! We're so glad to have you as a member of Island Birth Association! You can find more information about Shannon on our Photographers page in our Member Directory.
