On Mondays we highlight our members so you can get to know the Island Birth Association community a little better! This Monday we meet Dr. Cheryl Schmitt from Vital Chiropractic in Mount Vernon.
Tell us a little about you and your business.
Vital Chiropractic and Wellness Center has been serving the Pacific Northwest since 2000. The office is comprised of 2 Doctors of Chiropractic, 2 licensed massage therapists and our wonderful office manager. We provide chiropractic care specializing in pregnancy and pediatrics, cranial sacral therapy and massage. Dr. Cheryl Schmitt also completed her Doula coursework through the Seattle School of Midwifery in 2003. In the same year, Dr. Schmitt became certified in the Webster technique and completed the Chiropractic Pediatric 200 Hour Certification (C.A.C.C.P.)
What attracted you to birth work?
Dr. Cheryl Schmitt started chiropractic care at the age of 4 so she grew up with a more holistic mindset and followed that into her career choice as a chiropractor. The attraction to the amazing time of pregnancy and the miracle of birth drew Dr. Cheryl to helping this population. During her extensive training with the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association in 2002 and 2003, her desire to help only grew as she saw families whose lives where vastly improved with chiropractic care. Then in 2004 she had her first child, at home, and fell in love even more with birth work. Since then she has had 2 (soon to be 3) empowering homebirths with her amazing midwife and doulas.
How does your service help women and families?
Chiropractic care helps in so many ways! Healthier, more comfortable pregnancies. Faster, easier deliveries. Healthier babies. Help with nursing difficulties or traumatic birth experiences. Help in easing colic or reflux in babies. The list goes on. Anything the nervous system controls and coordinates can potentially be influenced with chiropractic care. We also provide massage therapy for pregnancy and pediatrics and cranial sacral care which also have huge influence on the health and wellness of both mom and baby.
What’s one thing you’d like us to know about you?
Being a chiropractor is much more than a job for me. It is a lifestyle for my family. I also homeschool my children, attachment parent and love competing in athletics. Triathlons are my newest adventure. I guess that is more than one thing but as moms, we are so much more than just one thing...I am all these things and so much more.
Thanks, Cheryl! We're so glad to have you as a member of Island Birth Association! You can find more information about Cheryl on our Bodywork page in our Member Directory.
