Being a mom is a full time job. On top of caring for our children and nurturing our relationships there are the demands of life such as work and chores. A little over a year ago I found what I like to call my guilty pleasure. Listening to podcasts. I can listen when I’m doing dishes or driving to the grocery store. These specific ones help keep my mind going by educating me on specific topics. Here are just a few of my favorites that are awesome for any expectant or new mom to listen to.
The Birth Hour - This is a really great one that all mamas are sure to enjoy. It’s focus is on birth stories. From home births to scheduled cesareans, there is something for everyone. It is done in an interview style and I love how you can really hear the emotion in each of the mothers stories.
Natural Birth and Baby Care - Don’t let the title fool you. Kristen does speak about things from a more natural viewpoint but there's more here than just childbirth topics. She speaks about how to relieve morning sickness, nurse during pregnancy, help your child become a big sibling, and so much more. I have listened to almost every one and look weekly for updates. This is definitely one to subscribe to.
The Boob Group - I really like this one because it talks all about lactation from a mom’s point of view. In some episodes they have a “panel” of mothers that they ask questions to so we can hear real life experiences. They also interview real life experts on topics we wouldn’t even think to ask about!
Taking Back Birth - Indie Birth produces this podcast. It is for the mom who is really involved and wants to know the who, what, how, and why of everything about her birth and body. Some things they talk about are freebirth and body alignment. There’s some really thought provoking topics on this one.
Birthful - I haven’t gotten a chance to listen in on this one yet but I’m including it because it has gotten really good reviews from two of our Island Birth Association members. Just glancing at the site there appears to be an early pregnancy playlist, which in my opinion is such an important time because you are choosing your provider and really laying the foundation to your pregnancy. On the main podcast page there are some topics I’ve been wanting to learn about such as plus size pregnancy and elimination communication. I’ll be listening to Birthful tomorrow morning while I make breakfast.
Dearest Doula - Here’s one for the birth workers. Nathalie Saenz hosts Dearest Doula and she claims it is for the “new and aspiring birth worker”. She interviews doulas, midwives, childbirth educators, etc. They cover elevator speeches, struggles, triumphs and “what if?” scenarios. Every guest she brings on adds inspiration and ideas to my life and I’m sure they will to yours too.
I hope you enjoyed reading about some of my favorite birthy podcasts. Listening to any of them will help educate and inform you of some of the choices you will need to make for your pregnancy and labor. What are some of your favorites?
